AquaVial EZ 6 Hours Coliform Test Kit
The AquaVial EZ Coliform & E. coli Water Test is the fast-result member of the AquaVial family — a field-portable screening test that detects Total Coliform and E. coli, the two primary indicators of water safety, in as little as 6 hours with a simple colour-change readout. Lab-grade sensitivity down to 1 CFU/mL, no lab and no mailing required.
Coliform bacteria are invisible, odourless, and tasteless at the levels that cause illness. The EZ test gives you a same-day answer for well, tap, rainwater, RV and cottage water — ideal when you need results before the end of the day rather than waiting 24–48 hours. Use a warm spot or any 35–40°C incubator for the fastest result, or simply leave it at room temperature overnight.
Key Features
- Detects Total Coliform and E. coli — β-D-Galactosidase-positive coliforms, the large majority of coliform strains found in water contaminated with faeces
- Fast results: 6 hours for recreational/swim water and 8 hours for drinking water with 35–40°C incubation; 18–24 hours at room temperature (20–35°C)
- Lab-grade sensitivity — detects down to 1 CFU/mL (1 CFU/10 mL on the drinking-water protocol)
- Simple visual readout: clear or yellow = no coliform; burgundy = coliform / E. coli present
- Field-portable, semi-quantitative single-vial test — no incubator strictly required
- 1 test per pack · 2-year shelf life · store at 15–25°C, keep dry and away from light
- Made in Canada by ExactBlue Technologies Inc.
How It Works
- Collect your sample: open the vial, fill it completely with your water sample, and close it back with the original plug cap. Shake well.
- Incubate the vial upright — 6 hours (recreational water) or 8 hours (drinking water) at 35–40°C, or 18–24 hours at room temperature. The detection limit can be adjusted by changing the incubation duration.
- Release the reagent: remove the plug cap, place the reagent-filled conical cap on the vial and twist to close, releasing the reagent into the vial. Shake 5–10 times to mix and let sit for 15 minutes.
- Read your result: compare the colour to the included chart. Clear/yellow = negative; burgundy = coliform / E. coli detected.
Important: any result observed after 24 hours is inaccurate and should be disregarded, as it can produce false-positive results.
